Communicating With Your Phoenix AC Repair Center – Introduction to Central AC Systems

Communication, an important part of AC repair workAfter the recent 72-degree days, you may already know you need a Phoenix AC repair center. CBS 5 AZ puts it this way: “Tons of sun…a wonderful winter.”

A late season storm may turn the tide, but it will be a short-lived change. The cooling season is just around the corner. Even if you don’t yet know what to expect from your air conditioning system now is a good time to take action. Stay ahead of the crowd. Get an AC checkup ASAP.

But, good comfort choices aren’t just about choosing the best Phoenix AC installation or repair team. You also need to know something about the equipment. When you have to call for a Chandler AC repair tech, it helps to know the jargon used by heating and cooling professionals.

You can count on American Cooling and Heating to guide you straight, but we like to provide our customers with as much useful information as we can. We wouldn’t be here without you. The following introduction to Central Air conditioning equipment and installation processes is crafted just for you.

From Amanda to Trane, The Core Design of Central AC Systems Function Alike

However, aside from primary system blueprints, central air conditioners share five key requirements:

  1. They must be installed and connected to ductwork
  2. The ductwork must be right sized for the unit and for your home
  3. Climate plays a major role in product selection
  4. Performance is directly proportional to the condition of your home and the right sizing of the AC unit to your home
  5. Reliability depends as much on the skills and reputation of the Phoenix AC contractor as it does the quality of the installed unit.

As to Phoenix air conditioning installation and repair, look for a company with an A+ Better Business Bureau rating, complaint-free membership in the Arizona Registrar of Contractors and a history of customer satisfaction. Don’t forget to confirm matters concerning license, bonding and insurance. Also take advantage of the consumer resources available via the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA). You will find American Cooling and Heating throughout the ACCA Phoenix area listings.

As to unit comparisons, FurnaceCompare.com provides a comprehensive selection of articles, efficiency ratings and wholesale pricing details for current central AC models. You can also take advantage of the free AC&H air conditioning and heating consumer literature.

Reliability of Central Air Conditioning As Measured By The Installation Pros

According to research performed by the editors of Consumer Search, Goodman products (Amana brands, Goodman and Janitrol) brought in more complaints and criticism than any other brand of cooling product. However, the majority of professional AC contractors argue that the issue is not due to the quality of the Goodman products so much as it is related to inexperienced, lazy or shoddy installation technicians.

Typically, companies such as Carrier and Trane establish rigid installation and repair requirements for technicians. Goodman is known to allow less skilled and poorly trained repairmen the freedom of installing their central air conditioning systems without extended company training. Some say that when dealing with Goodman AC products, you should always find a skilled AC contractor. Management at American Cooling and Heating says you need skilled technicians for any type of AC installation or repair in the Phoenix area or elsewhere.

If you want your system to cool efficiently, last as it should and reduce your energy expenses, follow these simple steps:

  • Hire the right Phoenix AC contractor
  • Right size the system for your home
  • Perform yearly maintenance.

We are here to help you get started. Get a summer checkup now. Our skilled techs can examine your system’s:

  • Electrical components and wiring
  • Operating pressures, including refrigerant charge
  • Airflow and temperature management
  • Air filter and thermostat life expectation
  • Amperages and motors
  • Outdoors coil
  • AND much more.

Industry-leading A/C Service Expert in Arizona, American Cooling and Heating, Provides Tips for Surviving in a Global Warming Environment

Environmental Study Declares Arizona the Fastest-Warming State; American Cooling and Heating Provides Tips On How To Live Comfortably and Safely in a Warming World – Especially When AZ is Getting the Worst of It

Recent studies are supporting what many local homeowners have been talking about lately. Record temperatures are breaking out all over the Earth. If even the ice caps at the top of the world are melting, imagine what could happen in Arizona, many residents reason. Current news items have many local homeowners and climate experts worried. NASA recently released results of their analysis of US global surface temperatures, showing that since the year 2000, we’ve had nine of the 10 warmest years ever recorded. A new study from ClimateCentral.org more specifically declares that Arizona is leading the pack of US states, racing toward global warming and more extreme weather at the highest speed of all.

The experts at American Cooling and Heating feel that no matter their individual stance on the political side of global warming, Phoenix and Scottsdale residents are rightly concerned about the future. Debates about whether humans are to blame for global warming aside, the earth is getting warmer and climate changes are always happening. We can’t count on the trend reversing itself any time soon.

It’s clear that we must adapt. For local residents who have been wondering about things like: Will we in the southwestern US keep getting hotter and drier year by year without relief? How can we adapt to more extreme weather? How can we help counteract the effects on our health? How can we preserve the environment? Will our budget survive as costs continually rise for natural gas, electricity and water.

Preparing for extreme weather

American Cooling and Heating provides local homeowners with a plan to deal with weather challenges while keeping their home environment comfortable and safe. These greater Phoenix area HVAC experts offer the following tips to help residents cope:

** Maintain existing A/C systems with annual professional service while planning for possible cooling system upgrades or replacement. As the professionals at American Cooling and Heating explain: “Annual or semi-annual preventive maintenance– and the equipment inspection that goes along with it, is crucial to help catch any impending safety or health issues like electrical problems, gas leaks or fire dangers. Proper maintenance service also extends the life of home comfort equipment and preserves its performance, keeping monthly operating costs (energy bills) as low as possible.” Moving into a new house, have the home comfort system inspected with a maintenance visit from an HVAC/R contractor before using your system or when planning to begin using it again after long disuse during winter months, for example.

** Consider upgrading the central air conditioner’s air handler or evaporator coil to enhance energy-efficiency and comfort. After assessing the condition of your system, the professionals at American Cooling and Heating can recommend compatible components from their supply of quality, industry-leading brands to upgrade your system.

** Evaluate the pros and cons of purchasing a new, highly efficient, central air conditioning system. The latest energy- and money-saving air conditioning technology is light-years ahead of systems on the market just a few year ago, generally resulting in long-term cost savings to homeowners. The professionals at American Cooling And Heating can provide individualized help to determine the return on new-system investment for local residents, taking into account their home’s construction, size and other specific factors. They can also factor in the cost of any needed cooling system repairs against using the funds toward a new system.

** Think about a heat pump for year-round home comfort and dependability. Although they’re called heat pumps, these refrigeration units provide some of the most efficient home cooling out there, since they operate by transferring heat rather than generating it. Although they provide great energy savings, there’s no compromise in home comfort with heat pump units. In cold weather, heat pumps can reverse their heat transfer process, providing economical heating that easily handles mild winters like ours.

** Prepare for new, more environmentally-friendly refrigerant. The local air conditioning experts explain that A/C replacement has taken on a new urgency with the imminent phase-out of R22 freon refrigerant, on which most existing cooling systems currently depend. Switching to a new air conditioning system will avoid the possibility of inconvenient R22 shortages and price hikes as it becomes scarce.

** Don’t miss out on the latest state and local power company incentives and government tax credits for the most energy-efficient products. These programs make new systems affordable and help recoup the costs of a new system quickly.

** Call for quick assistance from the local HVAC experts at American Cooling and Heating whenever necessary. In an emergency, their 24-hour Repair and Installation Service Teams are on standby to get to greater Phoenix area homes and businesses quickly when the need arises. The company’s highly skilled quick response teams help ensure the uninterrupted operation of essential cooling, refrigeration, ventilation (and heating) systems in the event of extreme weather or sudden breakdown.

Drop Those Costs! Six-Point Air Conditioning Energy Efficiency Plan That Can Save You Money

Arizona Air Conditioning Service Center Introduces Energy Saving Tips And Advice

In Compliance With Energy Star Suggestions For Best Efficiency A/C Systems, American Cooling and Heating Presents Phoenix Area Residents With Six-Point, Energy Star Efficiency Tips, Including an Equipment Maintenance Check List

Staying cool costs money. In the summer, air conditioning is the big energy ticket item. The Alliance to Save Energy says that the 2012, residential household energy bill will run around $2,200. They also say that simple changes can ease the strain and keep your home more comfortable at the same time.

The following American Cooling and Heating Six-Point Energy Star Efficiency plan can help you ease the burden on your A/C system, your pocketbook and your family’s comfort demands:

1) Air Filters

When things appear to be functioning correctly, homeowners forget the importance of changing their HVAC air filter. Yet dirty filters reduce air flow, force your system to work hard and result in wasted energy. Change the HVAC filter once a month. It will reduce cooling expenses and prevent the build up of dust and dirt, which may even eliminate the future need for at least one service call.

2) HVAC System Tune Up

What would it cost to repair your automobile if you never changed the oil until the engine seized up? Although special circumstances such as landscaping-related dust and debris may prompt a need for a special maintenance call, once a year is typically sufficient for a home HVAC system. Spend a little to save bunches. The American Cooling and Heating, 24-hour on-call service center is every-ready at your disposal.

Use the following A/C maintenance checklist for a safety guide:

Reasonable thermostat settings
Secure electrical connections
Lubrication of moving parts
Functioning condenser drain
Functional controls
Dirt on the condenser coils
Refrigerant level – Typically requires a technician
Clean blower components
Clean filters.

Your local contractor American Cooling and Heating can perform the complete HVAC maintenance checklist at a very reasonable costs to you.

3) Programmable Thermostat

Not all home air conditioning systems have an installed programmable thermostat. Yet when correctly installed and properly used, a programmable thermostat can reduce your yearly energy costs by as much as $190. An American Cooling and Heating technician is on-hand now to help you update to an energy-efficient thermostat system.

4) Leaking Duct System

Low air pressure moving through your home may be the result of an improperly sealed heating and cooling duct system. As much as twenty percent of your cooling and heating cost may be coming to rest in the crawlspace beneath your home or in your attic.

Your American Cooling and Heating technician is more than willing to help you better understand the true cause of your heating and cooling complications.

5) Upgrade to a New Energy-Efficient HVAC System

Old systems cost more to operate than the modern energy-efficient products produced by Amana, Carrier, Rheem and others. A new energy-efficient home HVAC system can reduce your yearly energy bill by as much as $200.

If your system is older than ten years or if it is not keeping your home livable and comfortable, perhaps you should have it evaluated by a quality HVAC contractor.

American Cooling and Heating offers a free air conditioning inspection and estimate.

6) Proper Installation

Perhaps a new system is the only answer to your home cooling complication. If so, seek the best in performance, energy efficiency and installation services. Improper HVAC installation can reduce your energy efficiency by as much as 30 percent – not to mention the excess wear and tear on your equipment.

These tips presented by American Cooling and Heating, currently serving the entire Phoenix area, including Paradise Valley AZ, Gilbert AZ, Mesa AZ, and Scottsdale AZ, and all other areas in Arizona.

Environmental Consequences – To Help Prevent Global Warming R-22 Refrigerants Are Phased Out, What Does That Mean For Your Cooling System?

Arizona A/C Service Contractor American Cooling and Heating Explains the Phaseout of R22 and Gives Advice on How to Handle it

GWP – Global Warming Potential is a relative measure of how much heat a greenhouse gas traps in the atmosphere, R22 has a high GWP, is harmful to the ozone layer and is being phased out because of these facts.

As the federally mandated phaseout of Refrigerant-22, also known under the brand name Freon, leads to lower production and associated higher costs, what does that mean for existing air conditioning systems?

If a home is cooled with an older air conditioner or heat pump, it may be financially feasible to keep using existing equipment, but for some homeowners, this is a good time to consider an upgrade to a new high-efficiency air conditioning system.

American Cooling and Heating wants to make sure people have all the information needed to make an well-nformed decision for homes in the greater Phoenix area.

R-22 is being gradually phased out through the Montreal Protocol, an international climate-change agreement that targets substances that are harmful to the Earth’s ozone layer. The refrigerant is a hydrochlorofluorocarbon, a substance known to deplete the ozone layer.

Newer cooling equipment uses safer, readily available refrigerants, such as R-410A, that cannot be used in older models. No air conditioners or heat pumps that use R-22 have been manufactured since 2010. As part of the phaseout of HCFCs in the United States, administered here by the Environmental Protection Agency, production of R-22 has already been reduced by 75 percent from baseline at the start of 2010 on a sliding scale.

The important dates coming for R-22 are:

  • 90 percent reduction by January 1, 2015
  • 100 percent reduction by January 1, 2020

Production of R-22 is already limited and prices are already rising. In two years, its production will be further limited. By the end of this decade, production and import will cease completely.

What does that mean for existing air conditioning systems? Two main points stand out:

  • R-22 will be harder to find as production dwindles.
  • R-22 will continue to become more expensive.

The EPA is promoting recovery and reclaimation of R-22 to continue servicing existing units beyond the 2020 end of production, but the agency is also encouraging consumers to switch to refrigerants like R-410A that do not deplete the ozone layer. That means new equipment, since R-401A cannot be used in older cooling systems.

The key in the important financial aspect of this decision is to balance the rising price of Freon and maintaining an older system against the cost savings a more energy-efficient cooling system would bring in lower energy bills and lower repair costs. Air conditioners and heat pumps that use R-22, and are well-maintained and performing efficiently, likely will not need to be replaced anytime soon.

However, with older existing equipment that is having breakdowns and maintenance issues that require recharge of refrigerant, that is strong incentive to consider a newer, more efficient system in anticipation of further price hikes in R-22. The effect on the environment is another incentive for many people who wish to be good stewards of the environment.

When looking for a new air conditioner or heat pump, look for the Energy Star label. Products that contain the federal energy agency’s label are more energy-efficient and cost less to use than standard models. Be sure to balance the estimated annual cost of operation against the cost of the equipment to get the best deal. Energy Star models can save 10 to 40 percent on energy bills.

Tips to Stay Cool While Waiting

American Cooling and Heating’s 24 hour air conditioning installation service means that Scottsdale homeowners will not have to wait long to get their homes cool again. With the record heat this year, those hours can seem like torture. Homeowners can keep themselves a little bit more comfortable with a few general tips.

Sometimes, a cool shower can help lower the body temperature. This is a valuable tool if temperatures inside the home are reaching critical levels, or if the family has young children or elderly family members to care for. Opening windows and setting up fans can provide temporary help. While it will not make the home feel as though the AC is on, it will help move the air and lower temperatures a little bit. Stagnant air always feels warmer than moving air. Finally, heading to the basement can help the family stay cool until help arrives.
